From what Walt and I heard this was a very quiet hunting season. All we are told is that very few bucks were harvested.
This is confusing to us because all the DNR reports indicate more licenses were sold this year then least and the harvest of tagged deer was bigger this year over last year.

Hunting Update For Price County Wisconsin
Well as we all know 2011 hunting season started on Saturday. So far we have heard mixed reviews?
First, we heard that according to the DNR more licenses were sold for hunting in Price County this year than year; but today we heard few restaurants and stores are seeing any significant numbers of hunters.
Have you heard anythinng?
Please keep Walt and I posted if you hear any good hunting news.
Thanks
Betty

We received this comment which we thought we should share.
Sunset Bay on Solberg Lake has the best tasting fish I have ever had! Actually all their food is great, and Dave the bartender is friendly and upbeat, and Tammy is a fantastic waitress!

First Ever BBQ Championship - Phillips Wisconsin - Draws Huge turnout
Well in case you haven't heard the first ever Phillips BBQ championship was held this past weekend in Phillips, Wisconsin. Hosted by Club 13 Super Club in Phillips, WI it took place in the parking lot between Club 13 and the A&W.
Ten really great cooks entered this competition - several driving from other parts of the state just to enter this competition. Over $1,800 was raised to support Logger Camp - far more than anticipated.
The BBQ cooks included Larry & Donna Halderman, Glen Schilling, Scott Coe, Rachel Hill, Don Hansen, Jude Desotelle, Al Jesunas, Paul Schilling.
The judges were local people from Price County: Jordan Neeck, Paul Precour, Jenny Kleinhans, DewWane Frase, B.J. Boltz, Debbie Petterson, Ron Gabrielsen.
This was fantastic great event which everyone is hoping will become an annual event.
If you have any question please get a hold of the staff at Club 13. 715-339-3456. I don't think they have an email. If anyone knows their email will you let us know or post a comment here?

Big Foot Sighting In Price County. True or False?
We heard a rumor that on November 29, 1997 local newspapers and several radio and TV stations reported that a Big Foot Creature was sighted in the northwest corner of Price County. What we heard the sighting occurred near the town of Lugerville just east of Price Lake.
The Big Foot creature was seen walking in an open area surrounded by forest, swamp, and a river at 2:30 in the afternoon. Anybody ever heard of this? Were there ever any other Big Foot sightings in Price County?

Best Deer Hunting In Price County, WI
We just got a call from our niece in Indiana, her husband Steve is thinking about coming up to Price County for Deer hunting this year. Since Fred stopped hunting years ago we were just wondering if any of you deer hunters out there still think deer hunting is good in Price County?
If so where is it better to hunt in Price County? Up north by Park Falls or down south by Prentice and Brantwood? Nor always use to hunt out by Soo Lake?

BBQ Competition Oct 8th, Phillips, WI at Club 13
We just heard that Club 13 - a well known supper club on Hwy 13 in Phillips, WI - is hosting its first ever a BBQ cook off competition on Satuday - October 8th. All Nor heard was the BBQ competition is being held to raise money for a local chairty known as Logger Camp.
He heard 12 local cooks have signed up to cook 10 racks of ribs each - meaning there will be 100 racks of ribs. Some cooks will use a dry rub, some a wet rub. Some of the BBQ sauces will be hot and spicy while other will be sweet.
If any of you hear anything more about this event please let us know. Fred and I love BBQ and will probably go but we are not sure of the time.
